Beach Trip May 2010
Caroline had fun washing down the deck and chairs with the hose-- over and over.
The girls enjoyed the plastic pool on the deck.

Caroline 2.5-2.75 years
And now here's an update on Caroline:
Her verbal skills continue to amaze us. A lot of people say that she seems much older than she really is, and I think its because she is so well-spoken. One funny story-- Chris and Caroline went to dinner back in February with some friends. They went to a mexican restaurant called Las Margaritas down the street from our house. Caroline, who had not been out to eat much prior to this, absolutely loved it. For weeks and weeks after, she walked around telling everyone, "I went to Las Margaritas. I ate a quesedilla and chips and sauce (salsa)." And she said all the words clear as a bell, even rolled her "r" in the Las Margaritas.
She loves to sing and dance. She learns lots of songs at school and comes home and sings them and dances to them. One particular favorite is a song that goes "Shake, shake, shake my sillies; clap, clap, clap my crazies; yawn, yawn, yawn my sleepies; wiggle my backies away". Of course, that's her version of it. Not sure what the real words are but it's quite entertaining. She jumps around and claps while she sings it.
She spent the winter months riding her tricycle inside the house. She had a loop from the kitchen, down the hall, through the dining room and back to the kitchen that she would ride over and over. We were always astounded at how fast she could ride and maintain control of the trike. She rode around singing "Bob the Builder, can we fix it? Bob the Builder, yes we can!" We only had a couple of minor crashes and one gash in the dining room wall. After one crash, she cried, got up and said "Mommy, I need my helmet." So, we put on the helmet and off she went again. On a warm day in April, she rode her trike all the way down to the park and back.
Sometime in April, the "why" questions started.... and they haven't stopped. She asks why about everything. I do my best to answer every time because I know that's how she learns. But, it can be exhausting!
She wakes up every morning and the first thing she asks is "Mommy, where are we going today?" She is always ready to go somewhere or do something. Thankfully, I most always have an answer for her. Mondays we go to Kindermusik, Tuesdays and Thursdays she has school, and Fridays we go to gymnastics.
Caroline and Chris have been going to Panera for breakfast every weekend for about a year now. She is a total celebrity there-- kind of like Norm on Cheers-- she walks in Panera and everyone, including employees and regular customers all know her and say hi to her by name. The store manager even bought a bag of stickers, especially for her, to keep behind the counter, and they give her one every time she comes in. Recently, she has started becoming friendly with the bread delivery truck driver and the armored truck drivers ("money truck"). When the money truck pulls up in front, she either goes to the window or outside to the sidewalk to wave to the driver sitting inside.
The past few weeks, Caroline has started to wear my shoes around the house. At first, she would go in the closet and get my flip-flops or running shoes and stomp around in those. Then she decided that she wanted to wear some of my nicer sandals and heels. I wasn't exactly crazy about her playing in those, so I moved them up to higher shelves on the shoe rack. One day, I was in the kitchen and realized that I hadn't seen or heard Caroline for a few minutes, so I went looking for her. I walked into the closet and caught her scaling my shoe rack (my floor to ceiling shoe rack), already up to the next to last shelf and reaching for a pair of beaded heels that she had seen me wear to the wedding we recently attended. She was a little startled when I walked in but not at all deterred from her mission.
Chris and Caroline were playing in the dollhouse upstairs, and Chris was trying to get her to go downstairs. She walked up to him, held her hand outstretched in front of him and said "Daddy, I'm not ready to go yet. I have to type an e-mail first." And marched off to the office.
Caroline is silly, energetic and full of life. Pop calls her a pistol. It's a perfect description. There is never a dull moment when Caroline is around.

Catherine 9-12 months
Its been a while since I've done much updating in text, so here's a summary of some highlights for Catherine over the past 3 months:
9 months- started crawling small distances
9.5 months- crawling all over the house; pulling up to stand some; gave her some white rice at dinner one night and she loved it (first finger food besides puffs and cheerios that she has liked)
10-10.5 months- pulling up all the time; much happier standing than sitting;
waving bye-bye and blowing kisses; blowing kisses evolved from us asking Caroline to blow Catherine a kiss when it was time to go night night; Catherine picked up on it, at first putting her fist to her mouth and then putting her fist to her mouth and blowing a raspberry; and now when she hears "night night Catherine" she automtically does her version of blowing a kiss
waving bye-bye started around 10 months in response to someone waving to her; around 10.5 months, she started waving when she would hear the words bye, bye or even sometimes when she would see Chris walking down the hall and she thought he was leaving to go to work
11 months- clapping; self-feeding small pieces of banana and cottage cheese; shaking her head no when she does something she knows she's not supposed to
11.5 months- taking steps with her hands held; standing without suppport; cruising
1 week before her first birthday- standing without support and clapping for herself
4 days before first birthday- climbing stairs
